Let's Make Movies

Image
Let's Make Movies ©2014 Nancy Lundebjerg David Hoey typically picks a theme for the Bergdorf Goodman holiday windows early in the year.  Last year's was "Holiday's on Ice" and every window depicted a different holiday ( Day 31:  31 Days of Holiday Windows ).  This year he was inspired by "inspired", the word that is.  My only quibble with the execution of this theme is that all of the sciences (while all 3 of them that they depict) are on the men's store while the arts grace the ladies store.  In an era where we want to encourage young women to pursue careers in science, engineering, and technology -- this seems like a bit of a miss to me.  Some day (soon I hope), maybe he'll introduce diversity and some broader thinking about women's role in Society into these windows of his. I do really like these windows -- don't get me wrong -- just wishing the #BGwindows team would broaden its horizons a bit.  Would have been great to have...

Window Watchers

The Bergdorf windows are good this year and you'll be seeing more of those (a la Throwback Bear ). But sometimes the people checking them out are better. Throwback Bear

Image
It's a Thursday so a good day to post a photo of the bear that has appeared in the Bergdorf Goodman Windows for two years running.  This year, he is tucked away in the corner of the Sculpture window and last year he was in the Upside Down April Fools Window ( Day 12:  31 Days of Holiday Windows ).  Nice gig if you can get it.   As for me, all I can think about when I see a prop making a return appearance is that I sure would like a visit to the #BGwindows prop warehouse with David Hoey as he selects what will go into the holiday windows.  Any windows for that matter. Tiffany Couples

This year, Tiffany introduced some diversity into its holiday windows.  We need more of that! Special Effects & Crowds

Image
Crowd Control  ©2014 Nancy Lundebjerg I am watching the Voice finale (I guess it's #theVoice finale if I were speaking #hashtag) and realized that there is a reason why I have not seen Lady Gaga or Madonna in concert.  I just don't get the special effects -- seriously, do we really need flames shooting up on stage?  Having said that, I'd be happy if any of the four finalists wins. That was the special effects part of this post. Two Friends Loose in the City  ©2014 Nancy Lundebjerg The crowds part, as you probably guessed, is about how crowded NYC gets at the holiday season. Particularly mid-town.  This point is particularly driven home if you take a minute (or two as is often the case when lined up to cross the street) to listen to what's going on around you.  Take these loosely transcribed (as in:  OK I did not write them down as I heard them) snippets of conversation overheard while trying to escape Times Square after a Saturday matinee...

Lights and Ornaments

Image
Lights I returned to #RockCenter this past weekend with friends and my niece Julia.  On the way we passed by a really big (really BIG) strand of Christmas tree lights and those glorious Red Ornaments at 1251 Avenue of the Americas.  Not sure how I feel about the lights but I love the giant plug! One Giant Plug Today marked the end of the first wave of cookie baking.  Even more amazing, they are packed up in a somewhat organized fashion ready to be sent.  I certainly have gotten efficient over the years -- or at least this year!  We'll just call it the year of Nancy's flirtation with unwrapped Reese's mini-PB cups and York Peppermint Patties.  It was also the year that I only made 4 doughs (so far).  Other than that, I can't think of much more to say about this annual cookie baking extravaganza of mine.  I waxed rhapsodic about why I do it in 2010 --  Hidden Kisses  -- and I pretty much feel the same today as I did then. Now...
