Barney's Gets Baz Dazzled

Image
Holiday Owl ©2014 Nancy Lundebjerg The Barney's windows were done up by Baz Luhrmann for the holidays.  The unifying theme appears to be Madonna's Celebrate -- which is at its most flamboyant when an opera singer comes out to sing while Madonna's  rendition .wafts out over the crowds.  Alas, I did not capture that so well as I was staking out the ice skating rink waiting for a skater to appear.  And appear she did. Window Dancer My favorite of the windows is the owl that intones Madonna's Holiday in a sonorous voice.  Maybe this is because when I first saw the window, two women with just the hint of a southern accent, had this exchange: First Woman:  What does this have to do with the holidays? Second Woman:  This has nothing to do with the holidays About sums it up.  I leave you with the owl. The Peace Tree

Image
The Peace Tree -- decorated with cranes -- is an annual tradition at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.  The tradition was inspired by Sadako Sasaki, a survivor of Hiroshima who was immortalized in the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. And, yes, that is a Phoenix lurking the background. The #RockCenter Tree

Image
I can't help but post a Google+ auto awesome tree photo from last year (I discovered Google+ auto awesome on Day 29 of 31 days of holiday windows -- last December's project).   You have to love a sparkling tree surrounded by sparkling angels. Twinkling #RockCenter Tree - 2013 ©2014 Nancy Lundebjerg Here is the photo without the bling: Rock Center Tree -- Without the Twinkle (2013) ©2014 Nancy Lundebjerg This photo is so perfect (to me that is) that I'm not sure why I went back this year,  But go back I did (several times in fact).  The closest shot I got to the above was a day time shot and I took it quickly as a group was trying to get their photo perfectly composed.  This creates some restlessness among the crowd that is waiting for their turn -- the not having one's pose figured out that is.  It's always a bit of a scrum at the top of the plaza. Fairy Tale

I had way too much fun with the #Instagram (IG) weekend hashtag project (WHP).  The theme -- fairy tales (#WHPfairytale for those of you who speak #hashtag).  Upon returning home from my 4 mile jaunt in Central Park, I posted three photos with accompanying snippets of fairy tales ( Actor , Painter , and Traveler .  As you might expect of someone whose blog is named Scribbles and Photos, this #hashtag project was tailor made for me.  Although in the true spirit of a platform that is primarily about images, I think IG was not actually looking for us to write a story or a snippet of a story for that matter. Let's Make Movies

Image
Let's Make Movies ©2014 Nancy Lundebjerg David Hoey typically picks a theme for the Bergdorf Goodman holiday windows early in the year.  Last year's was "Holiday's on Ice" and every window depicted a different holiday ( Day 31:  31 Days of Holiday Windows ).  This year he was inspired by "inspired", the word that is.  My only quibble with the execution of this theme is that all of the sciences (while all 3 of them that they depict) are on the men's store while the arts grace the ladies store.  In an era where we want to encourage young women to pursue careers in science, engineering, and technology -- this seems like a bit of a miss to me.  Some day (soon I hope), maybe he'll introduce diversity and some broader thinking about women's role in Society into these windows of his. I do really like these windows -- don't get me wrong -- just wishing the #BGwindows team would broaden its horizons a bit.  Would have been great to have
